Basic Principles and Recent Advances in Magnetic Cell Separation

Magnetic cell separation has become a key methodology for the isolation of target populations from biological suspensions, covering wide spectrum applications diagnosis and therapy in biomedicine to environmental or fundamental research biology. There now exists great variety commercially available instruments reagents, which permitted rapid dissemination technology. However, there is still an increasing demand new tools protocols provide improved selectivity, yield sensitivity process while reducing cost providing faster response. This review aims introduce basic principles magnetic neophyte, giving overview recent field, development labeling strategies design integrated microfluidic sorters point-of-care platforms combining selection, capture, downstream detection. Finally, we focus on clinical, industrial where are amongst most promising techniques address challenges isolating rare cells.
